i was glad to see that i have some relatives in common. i was also able to connect directly with my cousins from my dads favorite uncle harless.i know i have had relatives in pikeville,shelby,whitesburg(hall,s), and yaeger where my dad was born.in those areas there were uncles harless,hobert,charlie sr.,charlie jr.(his son brett),a.b.and others that i'll have to rack my brain on.i know i am a decendent of abraham and issac and will provide that lineage as soon as i find my chart that my uncle burl helped me with. write to you soon and good luck!

Absolutely fabulous web site. I was hoping to reconnect with Sadie Mae (Ramey) Bove, who is my cousin through marraige. I was born on Feds Creek in 1946, to Charles Evans Lewis, son of Charles & Virgie Lewis, and Letty Earlene Church. My Grandmother was Bessie (Ramey) Church. My toddler days were spent living with my Grandmother and Aunts & Uncles. I believe we lived on Ferrells Creek, near Otto & Edna (Potter) Ramey. Moved out of there in early 50's. This was a great experience, looking at many surnames I remember from my childhood. Can anyone give me information on the Ramey reunion?

I am the granddaughter of Alta Mae Potter Bennett. Her father was Worley Potter and her mother was Rosie Potter. My grandmother was born and raised in the Potter Flats, and that's were many of my aunts and uncles were born as well. My great aunt Doris Potter Clevinger is still living, as well as my great uncle Charles Potter. My grandmother has passed away and so has my great uncle Jim Potter. My GG grandfather was Shadrach "Shade" Potter, GGG grandfater was Andrew Potter, and my GGGG grandfather was Richard Potter. My family has always attended the Potter Reunion in the Breaks Interstate Park for as long as I can remember. I have heard many stories about the Poter Flats and I have walked the railroad tracks many times to visit the remains of what's left of the Flats. Pool Point Bridge has always been a scary place for me even though I've fished the area many times. Anyone with any info on the Potter Flats or family, please let me know!

I love this site. My grandfather was Morris Potter of Greenup Co., Kentucky. His father was Sherman Potter and his father was Issac. I would love to take my dad to the Potter flats this summer so he can see some relatives. There are several Potters still in the Greenup area. More information. Grandfather Keen Potter born October 1880. Was son of Johnnie and Kate Ann Potter. Died December 21, 1954. Two brothers, Robert and Carney. Three sisters Annie, Emmeling and Lydia. Grandpa and Grandma Potter had four boys and six girls. Carson, James, Earl and Ben. Girls are Goldie Hall, Sylvia Johnson, Martha Stanley, Edith Hylton Eppling, Alice Mullins and Rachel Saunders. They were members of Union Association Of Old Regular Baptists Of Jesus Christ. I have in my posession the Minutes of this church and various pictures of people that passed away and information on their families. Will be glad to share . Christine Hall Stanley

My grandmother was Goldie Potter Hall. She grew up on Potter Mountain and married Homer Hall. They moved to West Virginia and had several children, one of which was my Mother, Christine Hall Poff. My father was Paul Raymond Poff. I don't know too much about my Grandmother's parents, but I believe her Father's Name was Keane Potter and his wife was Dosie Potter. She had several siblings, and I remember some of their names: Edith, Silvy (those are the only two I remember, but there was a boy as well). My Grandparents used to visit KY every several years and I know that they went to the Pikeville area. I would like to hear from anyone that might have known my grandmother.

I just loved reading all your guest intries. It was very interesting see all the different people looking for their Kin Folk. I am the daughter of Joseph John and Anna Faye Devosha. My dad has one brother Bernard Devosha and one sister named Bernice (Devosha) Sedden. I have 3 sisters. There are a few aunts and uncles left on my dad's side. My mom is the daughter of Pearl Mae and Martha Ellen Robinson. They are deceased. And so are my dad's parents, Which were John Joseph and Bernice U. Devosha. I am of the William Oliver Butler Potter family. He was my grandfather. I am originally from Grundy,Virginia. There is a old cemetery located on Slate Creek in Grundy in which a lot of the Potter family are buried. We have just a few days ago lost another member of our family Emile Potter Compton who I loved very much. I will be traveling to Grundy tomorrow to attend her funeral. She has been very helpful in identifying a lot of old pictures which my family possesses of the Potter clan. I believe there may be a mistake in the family of James Harvey Potter. I think that William O.B. Potter and Butler Potter may be the same person. If anyone knows differently, please let me know.

Hello, I am honored to add to the Guestbook of the descendants of Abraham Potter. My name is Joel Martin Potter born o3/o2/1941 in Fleming, Ky., son of Creed Flannery Potter, son of Joel Martin Potter sheriff of Isom, Ky., son of Abraham Potter. My mother Ida Fuller Potter, my half sister Billie Joyce Johnson Jaynes, my brothers Clark Douglas Potter and David Thomas Potter, my sisters Annette Yvonne Potter and Leona Carlene Potter Burkland (the entire family) all live in the Houston, Texas area and trickled down here from Fleming-Neon from 1961 on. Maybe next year some of us can arrange to come to the reunion and introduce ourselves and meet some of the relatives we may or may not have known.

I was raised in Elkhorn City. My parents were Nora and Hansel Stapleton. I had 4 brothes, Bobby Ray Coleman, Lloyd Stapleton, Jack Stapleton, and Jim Stapleton. I also had 1 sister named Reable Robinson. My parents and Bobby and Lloyd are all in Heaven. Jim and Reable live in Elkhorn, and Jack lives in Indiana. I live in Crestline, Ohio. Elkhorn will always be my home.

My father was Claud Potter. My mother was Rachel Ratliff. I had 1 brother, Kirby, and 1 sister, Claudia. My father was killed in 1944 in France. My mother lives in Mt. Gilead, Oh. My brother lives in Mansfield, and my sister lives in Elkhorn.I was known in school as Donald Gene Potter.

I was born and reared in the Breaks, son of Judge Mullins,i left there in 1953, spent 37 years in Ohio, retired in 1989 and moved to Tn,so i am not that far from my home place,

The exciting mystery of the unknown lady who "danced herself to death" at historic Graham Springs,Harrodsburg (buried in now "Young Park") might be the remains of Mollie Black Sewell. The "unknown lady" buried here who is the gaiety of one of the nightly social functions held there before the 1860's, dropped dead on the ballroom floor while dancing. The possible solution of the mystery came years ago but none of the family have ever verified this to be more than a tenative identification. Joe Sewell of Tazewell, Tennessee, reportedly told the tale of his estranged wife 'dancing herself to death at Harrodsburg.' Also reporting that his wife, Molly Black, had a small son at the time of her death, who was probably brought up in Laurel County, Kentucky, as she herself was born there. All of the above is from a period of time when the mystery was about 75 years old. It is now around 160 years old. Efforts are being taken in the above mentioned areas to locate any decendants of Mollie. My Mom is a decendent of Abraham Potter. Her father was Enoch Potter. They were from Ashcamp, Ky. We have a Potter reunion every 2 years at the Breaks.

Abrham Potter is my Great Great Great Grandfather. My father was Manasseh John Potter (Oct 3 1888 - July 10 1964) born at Potter Fork KY, son of Thomas Isom Potter (1856-1935)who was son of John Boone Potter (1828-1911)who was the son of Isaac Potter (1802-1874)who was the son of Abraham Potter (1745-1834) born in Rowan Co. My grandmother was Levenia Potter Thomas, ggrandfather Thomas Isom Potter, gggrandfather John "Boone" Potter, ggggrandfather Isaac Potter, gggggrandfather Abraham Potter. Some of the information on Thomas Isom Potter is wrong. His first wife was Sarah J. Bentley. I would love it if someone could give me information on their daughter "Emma Zetta Potter". I don't know if she died at child birth or if her mothers family raised her. My ggrand mother was Nancy Jane Newsome his second wife. It seems like the Potters married alot of Newsome's . I am the daughter of Bart Potter (Ample Rose) who was the son of Butler Potter, the son of Levi and Sarah Potter. Dad spoke often of "the good ole days" in Potter Flats and always looked forward to the reunion each year. He loved to get together with others and reminisce about those days. He was proud of his family and so are we. Dad passed away in October of 2001 and we miss him greatly.

I visit the Potter Flats page very often. I was raised on the Left Fork of Beaver and knew most of Otto and Edna's children very well. In fact, Billy and I graduated from high school together. I haven't lived in the area for any length of time since 1956 but I miss it constantly.

I've been going to the Breaks since, well, before anything was built I guess, like 1960 or thereabouts. I remember them building the pool and all, and I think I remember them dozing te area around the lake, maybe when the dam was built. I am the grandson of Grace Potter Sykes. She is the daughter of the late Adam Potter,last man to legally harvest a black bear in the Flats. I loved travelling through the Flats in Jeeps and on motorcycles. It was the best scenic route to Pool Point where I like to camp,swim, and fish. I also enjoyed going to Pretty Rock House and looking for arrowheads. If you ever pass through the Flats and see a chimney standing alone before you get to the railroad, that is where my grandmother lived. Help keep the Flats and the Island clean.

Hello Potterflats. Somewhere along the line, I think the Castles are kinfolk. I am the daughter of Roy C. Cassell, and the grand daughter of Joe and Inas Castle of Beefhide. Since I never knew my Castle family, I surfed the internet with hopes of finding some information. I found a Castle genealogy bulletin board to which I posted a message requesting any informaiton. Joyce Moore Wallace graciously responded. She has provided me with much family information. Joyce gave my email address to yet another cousin, Lawrence Cook of Ashcamp who has provided not only information, but a photograph of my great great grandfather, Bud Castle who was married to Sukey Cantrell--I think. Their sons were: Joseph, Ballard and Dow. I think there were 4 daughters. Lawrence provided my email address to another cousin, Loyd Fleming who has provided some interesting stories along with family information. All three are God-sends. They are very fine folks. On your site "Sixth Generation", I noticed on one of the family links which provides information of an ancestor--marriage, etc. The woman was the daughter of: "Isaac Moore and Mary Polly ?". Well, I think the name you are looking for here is Mary "Polly" Clevinger Moore. I think Joyce and Lawrence's genealogy, lists Mary Poly marrying Isaac Moore, however, I could be wrong. IF, this is the same Mary Poly, then Lawrence Cook and/or Joyce Moore Wallace could probably provide you with much information. Joyce is currently building a family tree of the Moore family so, she might be your best source of information. If you would like her email address, just email me at the above address. Also, you might be inerested in knowing, Lawrence provided pictures of Mary Poly's grave with stone blocks around her grave. I think the story is she was Cherokee Indian, and to save her remains and grave from the Shawnee Indians who were fierce enemies with the Cherokees, her family built a two-stone high wall around her grave. I don't remember which family I found Mary Poly ?, but am still searching for it to be more exact--you probably know where to look. I'm not certain of this, but I think the relation between Mary "Poly" and myself--she is a great great great aunt or grandmother. Since there are so many ancestors listed, it takes a little while figuring out just exactly how one is related. I will be visiting Beefhide the week of April 22, and would love for the family--no matter how distant--to meet. I would love to hear from you.

Like the Jessee James Story. My grandmother said the James boys slept in her family's barn. When my daughter told this in school, the teacher told her that this could not be true because the James brothers stayed west of the Mississippi. She came home crying and said the teacher said her great grandmother had told a story that was impossible to be true. I was glad to read that they had indeed been to Ky. and WVA. I recently found a box full of pictures my grandfather had when he died and a book his brother wrote in 1977 about growing up in Pike Co.
