John Potter enlisted in the Confederate Army on 4 Jul 1863 at Liberty Hill, VA. John was a 2nd Lieutenant. John served with brothers James Harvey, Andrew, Henry and George W. in the Civil War. The brothers served in Co K, 14th Regiment Cavalry, KY Volunteers, CSA, formerly May's Battalion, KY & VA Mounted Rifles 10th Cavalry commanded by A. J. May (Col.)



He was married to Elizabeth Ramey (daughter of Moses Ramey and Tabitha ?) on 7 Jul 1848 in Pike County, Ky.. Elizabeth Ramey was born in 1835. John Potter and Elizabeth Ramey had the following children:
